Ascension, Ingram
Ascension parish was established on June 7, 1967, to help relieve congestion in the nearby parishes of St. Philip and Holy Innocents. The first Mass of the new parish took place on June 11, 1967, in St. Philip Church. After three weeks, Sunday Mass was moved to the Ingram United Presbyterian Church. The parish purchased property from the Pittsburgh Railways Company. The property included an abandoned street car barn and an administrative building. Rather than tear down the buildings, the parish decided to use them. Beginning in September of 1967, work began to convert the street car barn into a church. The administration building was converted to classrooms, parish offices and a parish hall.
The renovated church building was dedicated on December 15, 1968. In the early 1990's, the church was improved with the installation of stained glass windows.
