Christ the King, Bessemer/Hillsville
Christ the King was established on June 30, 2000. The parish was formed by the merger of St. Anthony parish in Bessemer and St. Lawrence in Hillsville. For over two years, the pastoral councils of both parishes studied the possibility of a merger. This was a logical move since both parishes had shared one pastor since 1995. After conducting parish surveys and completing the study, both parishes petitioned the bishop for permission to merge.
