Responding to the request from Fr. John O'Reilly, pastor of St. Paul Cathedral, the Sisters of Charity at Emmitsburg, Maryland name three Sisters for a mission to Pittsburgh
Dedication of the second St. Mary School, Sharpsburg
The first Mass celebrated in the first St. Barnabas Church, Swissvale, although at the time the church was neither named St. Barnabas nor was it located in Swissvale. When the congregation began working on the church, they determined to name it St. Michael the Archangel. However, when the church was completed, they chose the name St. Joachim, which lasted for two weeks until it was renamed Holy Cross. Not until November was it given its final name of St. Barnabas. The building was located in Rankin. It was not until 1945 when the parish purchased land in Swissvale for a new church that the parish moved.
Fr. P. J. O'Flynn named the first pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Roscoe
