The congregation of the new parish in Whitehall request permission from the bishop to name their new parish St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin

Ground broken for St. Gerard Majella Church, Penn Hills

 

 

1969

Bishop John Wright and the bishops of Wheeling, Steubenville, Youngstown and Greensburg meet with Fr. Augustus Taylor to discuss his proposal for an interdiocesan team witness of Catholic blacks to the black community.  This meeting led to the eventual creation of the Diocesan Office for Black Catholic Ministries
