St. Gerard Majella, Penn Hills

St. Gerard Majella was established on May 27, 1964.  The first Mass of the new parish was celebrated the next day in a house that was converted to a chapel and catechetical center.  Sunday Masses were celebrated in the North Bessemer Community Volunteer Fire Hall.  In August of that year, plans were drawn up for a combined church and catechetical center.  Ground for the new building was broken on January 29, 1966, and construction of the building began in April of 1966.  The first Mass in the new church was celebrated on June 25, 1967.  The church was formally dedicated on January 28, 1968.  The church was later renovated in 1978.  This building continues to serve the congregation today.
