St. Thomas a Becket, Jefferson Hills

St. Thomas a Becket was established on June 3, 1957, to meet the needs of the growing suburban community.  The first Mass of the new parish was celebrated on June 16, 1957, in the gymnasium of Thomas Jefferson High School.  In the fall of 1957 the parish purchased a home and converted it to a chapel, social hall and rectory.  The chapel was blessed on December 22, 1957, and the first Mass in the new chapel was celebrated on Christmas Day.

In April of 1962 ground was broken for a building that would hold a school and temporary church.  The cornerstone of the building was laid on July 15, 1964, and the completed building was dedicated on July 11, 1965.
