Diocesan Recycling Effort
Diocese of Pittsburgh
Recycling Program
Announcement
“To promote good stewardship of the earth, the environment and the community…,” the Diocese of Pittsburgh is going green!
Announcing the New Diocesan Recycling Program! Site Coordinators have been assigned to help implement and maintain the program at the six participating Catholic Institute properties. They are Darlene Holzer [Pastoral Center], Lou Ann Wright [First Avenue Building], Ray Franks [St. Paul Seminary and St. John Vianney] and John Hudson [Youth & Young Adult Ministry and Cardinal Dearden Center).
Materials to recycle include Paper, Plastic, Glass, Metal and Corrugated Cardboard. No need to sort, all materials will be collected together, with the exception of corrugated cardboard, which should be separated. While it’s preferred that items to be recycled are rinsed and bottles are emptied, it’s not mandatory to do so, nor is it necessary to remove the bottle caps. Easy, easy, easy!
Green recycling containers will be distributed to all offices, residences, common areas and eating areas. Combination trash/recycling containers will be distributed to all offices and residences. These specially designed containers will make it easy to separate recyclables from trash, in your office or Diocesan residence. The small beige container fits neatly inside the large green recycling container. Trash goes into the beige container; recyclables go into the green recycling container!
Please do not bring recyclable materials from home, to recycle at your office. Commercial accounts are charged differently than a residential account. The Diocesan fee for trash collection is based on the amount of trash collected, not a flat fee as with a residence.
While change can be difficult, please remember, recycling is about developing healthy habits that will reduce the amount of materials we use and throw away and ultimately reduce our negative impact on the environment. Please feel free to talk to your Site Coordinator about any questions, or concerns you may have. Thank you, we appreciate your participation in the Diocesan Recycling Program!
