DIOCESE
ISSUES STATEMENT REGARDING
STATUS OF NEW HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT
The
Diocese of Pittsburgh has acquired an option to purchase land in
Cranberry
Township
upon which it hopes to construct a new Catholic high school facility. The land,
comprising nearly 71 acres, is located on the northern side of State Route 228
and is just across from the St. Kilian Elementary School. This action by the
diocese is part of a much broader consultation, especially with representatives
of
North
Catholic
High School
on the North Side.
The
diocese hopes to complete an extensive due diligence investigation of the
property within the next several months to determine whether or not to complete
acquisition of the property. Pending acceptable outcome of the investigation,
the diocese hopes to complete acquisition of the property by the end of the
year.
The
diocese has made preliminary contact with officials at both
Cranberry
Township
and Seven Fields Borough and hopes to successfully construct a new high school
complex on this land at some point in the future that will serve more than 1,000
students.
A
project of this magnitude requires a substantial commitment of capital in the
form of cash and pledges as well as external borrowing. While the hope is to
commence construction as soon as possible, no work can begin until the capital
campaign generates sufficient funds.
