ABOUT THE MISSION OFFICE
The Diocesan Mission Office purpose:
- To promote within the Diocese an awareness of missions
- To operate as a local office for the National Office of the Pontifical Mission Societies
- To coordinate the Missionary Cooperative Plan (MCP) where each parish welcomes a visiting missionary each year
- To distribute Mass Intentions to various mission dioceses and organizations
The Mission Office is the local office of the Pontifical Mission Societies in the United States which supports the 1,150 struggling mission dioceses around the world. These programs fall directly under the authority of the Holy Father in Rome. Their primary purpose is the promotion of a universal missionary spirit – a spirit of prayer and sacrifice – among all baptized Catholics.
The Pontifical Mission Societies are:
- The Society for the Propagation of the Faith
- Holy Childhood Association
- The Society of St. Peter the Apostle
- Missionary Union of Priest and Religious
