Parish History
St. Hilary was founded in 1919 as a Polish ethnic parish. In July of 1919, the bishop granted permission to a group of Poles in Washington to form a new parish. On October 23, 1919, a resident pastor was assigned to the parish. At first Mass was celebrated in a rented building. In 1920 work was begun on a new church. The cornerstone was laid on December 12, 1920, and the completed building was dedicated on September 5, 1921.
In 1954, St. Hilary became a territorial parish. Due to the growth of the congregation, ground was broken for a new church on March 13, 1966. The completed church was dedicated on May 30, 1967. The original church was subsequently torn down. Beginning in 1991, the interior of the church underwent major renovation. This church continues to serve the congregation today.
