That Man is You!, a 26-week interactive men's spiritual formation program, will begin Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the Diocese of Pittsburgh at St. Thomas More Parish in Bethel Park.
The session will start with dinner at 7:15 p.m. in the parish Family Life Center, followed by a presentation and small-group discussions, concluding at 8:45 p.m.
According to the program website (www.thatmanisyou.org), That Man is You! seeks to form men who are fully alive by harmonizing what has typically been referred to as the three wisdoms of the Catholic Church: knowledge (secular knowledge, including medical and social science), understanding (theology, including Scripture, the magisterium and tradition) and wisdom (contemplative or mystical knowledge found primarily in writings of the saints).
The impact of the program on the lives of men is seen in three areas: transformation of marriages and family life, treatment of men's issues and involvement in parish life.
Tom Jones, a St. Thomas More parishioner who is helping promote That Man is You!, said the program fits perfectly into the men's ministries that are active in the diocese, including Catholic Men's Fellowship parish groups, Emmaus and other retreat activities.
"As men we are called to live and love like God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and for most of us it begins with the marriage covenant," he said. "That's difficult to not only comprehend, but put into practice. That's how That Man is You! will help us, by guiding us to understand the marital covenant and bringing God's teaching into practice with our families."
Jones said his exposure to That Man is You! began when Father Dan Langa, parochial vicar at the time, urged a group at St. Thomas More to gather information about the program and discuss its use.
The local leaders of That Man is You! are Joe Flynn and Andy Quesnelle, both lectors at St. Thomas More.
