COURAGE is a spiritual
support group for Catholic men and women who are striving
to live chaste lives in accordance with the Catholic Church's
teaching on homosexuality. COURAGE meets weekly in the Pittsburgh
area. Each member's anonymity is carefully guarded.
Many Catholics today with homosexual tendencies or feelings
are confused about their orientation and how they may "fit
into" their faith. Often, these Catholics are fearful to step
forward and seek help, support, and guidance. They are often
surprised, too, to learn that they are not alone.
COURAGE is a Catholic organization with chapters all over
the United States and Canada. It provides the opportunity
for homosexual Catholics to meet with each other, share their
feelings, pray together, and make progress in their faith
in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
Each year, usually during the summer months, COURAGE holds
a national conference where hundreds of men and women gather
together to pray, study, and support each other.
You need not struggle with your problems alone!

Goals and Purpose
Father John Harvey, OSFS, the Founding Director of COURAGE,
has listed the goals and purpose of COURAGE as follows:
- To live chaste lives in accordance with the Roman Catholic
Church's teaching on homosexuality.
- To dedicate one's life to Christ through service to others,
spiritual reading, prayer, meditation, individual spiritual
direction, frequent attendance at Mass, and the frequent
reception of the sacraments of Penance and Holy Eucharist.
- To Foster a spirit of fellowship in which all may share
thoughts and experiences, and so ensure that no one will
have to face the problems of homosexuality alone.
- To be mindful of the truth that chaste friendships are
not only possible but necessary in a celibate Christian
life and in doing so provide encouragement to one another
in forming and sustaining them.
- To live lives that may serve as good examples to others.
