Bishop Paul J. Bradley was appointed titular bishop of Afufenia and auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh on December 16, 2004 and was ordained on February 2, 2005.

The son of John and Cecilia Bradley, Bishop Bradley Paul J. Bradley was born on October 18, 1945, in Glassport, PA. He attended St. Cecilia Grade School and attended high school, college and graduate theology studies at St. Meinrad Seminary, St. Meinrad, Indiana. He also earned the Master's in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh.

Ordained a priest in the Diocese of Pittsburgh on May 1, 1971 by Bishop Vincent M. Leonard, Bishop Bradley served for the next 12 years as parochial vicar in the parishes of St. Sebastian in the North Hills, St. Paul in Butler, and St. Kieran (now part of St. Matthew Parish) in Lawrenceville.

From 1983-88 he was director of the Office for Family Life in the diocese, then Secretary for Human Services (which during this time became the Secretariat for Social Concerns), 1988-1995. During this same time he lived in residence at Madonna del Castello Parish, Swissvale, and from 1991-93 he was a member of the ministry team along with Father, now Archbishop, Daniel DiNardo serving Madonna del Castello.

In 1994 he was appointed pastor of St. Sebastian Parish, returning to his first diocesan assignment, where he remained until January 2001 when he was named rector of St. Paul Cathedral and pastor of St. Paul Cathedral Parish.

On November 7, 2003, Bishop Bradley was named General Secretary and Vicar for the Diocese of Pittsburgh by Bishop Wuerl.

As General Secretary, Bishop Bradley is responsible for the overall direction of the operations, programs and activities of the central administration of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, as well as for supervision of the many ecclesial institutions, organizations and programs directed by or associated with the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

Bishop Bradley has served in a number of other roles for the diocese, including deanery youth director for the Northwest Deanery, 1973-75; family life director, Butler Deanery, 1977-82; and dean of the Northwest Deanery, 1998-2001.

He also has been a member of the diocesan marriage preparation policy committee, the priest personnel board, and the priest council.

As General Secretary and Vicar General for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Bishop Bradley serves on numerous boards including the Chimbote Foundation Board of Trustees, the Pauline Auberle Foundation Board, the Board of Directors of Duquesne University, the Administrative Board and Executive Committee of the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference and the Saint Anthony School Programs Board. Bishop Bradley will also continue to serve as chaplain to the Sisters of the Holy Spirit.
