Out of an abundance of caution, fifth grade students at Christ the Divine Teacher Catholic Academy (Aspinwall) will move to remote learning effective immediately.  The decision was made based on recent COVID cases in the school community and health recommendations after consulting with diocesan officials

Following consultation with his parish pastoral and finance councils, parishioners, parents, and the diocesan Department for Catholic Schools, Father Joseph McCaffrey, pastor, Holy Spirit Parish (New Castle), submitted his request to Bishop David Zubik to close Holy Spirit Academy. 

Out of an abundance of caution, all students at Holy Family Catholic School (Plum) will participate in remote learning today through Friday, May 7, 2021.  Administrators were notified that a few staff members have been exposed to or are showing symptoms of COVID-19.

Administrators at Northside Catholic Assumption Academy (Pittsburgh/Brighton Heights) have been informed of a ​sixth COVID-positive school community member within the past eight days.

Members of the Central Catholic (Oakland, PA) lacrosse team will move to virtual learning and lacrosse games will be suspended through April 29, 2021 due to a positive COVID case in a person associated with the team. 

The South Regional Catholic Elementary School (SRCES) Board has announced its selections for principals of two newly merged schools in the south region.  The recommendations were approved at a board meeting Wednesday, April 14, 2021.  

Due to a third positive COVID case in the last 14 days, in an abundance of caution and in compliance with health guidelines, Serra Catholic High School (McKeesport) has scheduled online instruction days for Monday, March 29 and Tuesday, March 30.

Due to a second positive COVID case, in an abundance of caution and in compliance with CDC and state guidelines, Saint Wendelin School (Butler) began virtual instruction Friday, March 19, 2021, and will continue through Friday, March 26, 2021.  In-person learning will resume Monday, March 29, 2021.

Today the Diocese of Pittsburgh informed those who filed a formal appeal of a decision to merge Saint Philip and Saint Margaret schools that their appeal has been denied.

Due to four positive COVID cases and staffing considerations, Divine Mercy Academy (Monroeville) transitioned to remote learning today, and will resume in-person instruction on Monday, March 15, 2021. 

Administrators at Saint Therese School (Munhall) were informed today that an individual associated with the school tested positive for COVID-19.  Due to the results of contact tracing and staffing considerations, the middle school (grades 6-8) will be closed for in-person learning from Monday, March 1 through Friday, March 5, 2021.

Members of the North Catholic High School (Cranberry Twp.) boys volleyball team will move to remote learning due to an individual associated with the team testing positive for COVID-19.  Pre-season volleyball practices are not mandatory.  The entire team is not impacted.

Central Catholic High School (Pittsburgh/Oakland, PA) moved to virtual learning for all students starting Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021.  Students will return to Central Catholic for in-person learning on Monday, March 1, 2021, due to a member of the faculty/administration testing positive for COVID-19. 

Students at Madonna Catholic Regional School in Monongahela were evacuated to the church after a member of the school’s maintenance staff discovered an electrical issue around 9:15 this morning.

In an abundance of caution, members of the boys JV-A basketball team at Holy Cross Academy (Ross Township) will move to remote learning and practices and games are suspended due to a report of COVID-19 exposure. In-person learning and basketball activities will resume March 1, 2021.

Following guidance from the Allegheny County Health Department, Central Catholic High School (Oakland, PA) will move to virtual learning for all students starting Thursday, February 18, 2021.  Students will return to Central Catholic for in-person learning on Monday, February 22, 2021, unless otherwise noted.

The girls varsity basketball teams at Blessed Trinity Academy Catholic elementary school (Glenshaw) will learn virtually, and practices and games are cancelled until February 25, 2021 after the school was notified that someone associated with the team tested positive for COVID-19.

As part of the regional school board's efforts to strengthen Catholic schooling in the south region of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, four elementary schools will merge for the 2021-2022 school year.  Bishop David Zubik made the decisions based on recommendations from South Regional Catholic Elementary Schools (SRCES) leaders.
