A Mass for Our Lady of Aparecida will be celebrated in Portuguese, October 9, at 6 p.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church of St. Teresa of Kolkata Parish, 1810 Belasco Ave, Pittsburgh (Beechview). Bishop Waltersheid will preside.
The patroness of Brazil came to the Church in an unusual way: In 1717 three fishermen, who were ordered to deliver fish to a ruler for an important banquet, had no luck until they hauled up a headless, wooden statue of the Blessed Mother. Casting their net again, they brought up her head. They then caught more than enough fish for the banquet. The story of their miraculous catch became a sign of the Virgin’s intercession and God’s provision and love for the poor.
This event is sponsored by the Latino Ministry Office of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
