The Diocese of Pittsburgh is committed to transparency and has published its independently audited financial report every year since 1969. These documents will help you to understand how the Diocese of Pittsburgh uses your gifts to serve Jesus.
June 2022
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:
When I consider your generosity to the Church of Pittsburgh during the COVID pandemic, I remember Jesus’ praise for the widow whose pennies meant more to God than gold, because she gave out of sacrificial love. Over the past two years, you have shown such sacrificial love while enduring the loss of livelihoods, loved ones and ordinary companionship. These independently audited financial statements from the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021 show how, in your own time of need, you continued to support the ministry of Jesus throughout our six counties.
Knowing your sacrifices, I strive to be a careful steward of your gifts as you are with your own household expenses. In this report, you will see that the diocese balanced its Central Administration budget by cutting $2.8 million in spending. Overall, since 2019 the budget has been reduced by $4 million. These cuts were very difficult, some involving the heartbreaking layoff of faithful employees.
Every year since 1969—in times of prosperity and of economic downturn—the Diocese of Pittsburgh has published independently audited financial statements of its Central Administration fund reflecting how diocesan ministries have been sustained by your gifts to the Parish Share Program.
Parish Share is the primary support of the Central Administration fund, which provides for ministries that are beyond the scope of any single parish. (Most of the other “income” in these statements actually consists of donations for school scholarships that pass through our offices and on to students.) Through Parish Share, you:
All of these benefits and many more are of integral help to every parish as they each carry out the mission of Jesus in our six counties.
It is my prayer that your gifts to Parish Share will always reflect your love for our Lord. As you see, every cent is spent to spread His message, His mercy and His mission in the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
Grateful for our continued efforts together in being On Mission for The Church Alive!, and for our belief that “Nothing is Impossible with God,” I am
Your brother in Christ,
Most Reverend David A. Zubik
Bishop of Pittsburgh
