After receiving a report of a third person testing positive for COVID-19, Central Catholic High School (Oakland, PA) has made the decision to close tomorrow, Thursday, November 12, 2020. The cases appear to be independent of each other, and there is no evidence of internal spread of the virus.
Under the guidance of the Allegheny County Health Department, Central Catholic has not been advised to move to online-only learning, but has made the decision to close tomorrow, November 12, to allow time for an additional deep cleaning of the campus and for administration to contact trace and notify those who were in close contact with the person who tested positive.
School administrators, in collaboration with the Allegheny County Health Department, have determined that school will reopen on Friday, November 13 unless otherwise determined pending contact tracing and test results.
Parents were informed of the need for the closure and will be updated through the school’s regular communication channels.
“The safety of our community is our utmost priority and we are working closely with the Allegheny County Health Department to take the proper steps to keep our students, staff and faculty safe,” said Brother Tony Baginski, FSC, Principal. “This year has presented challenges like no other, and our dedicated faculty, staff and administration are committed to keeping our community safe while providing a top-notch education, both in-person and online. We are grateful for the flexibility, support and perseverance that our students and parents have shown throughout these difficult times.”
