Administrators at Northside Catholic Assumption Academy (Pittsburgh/Brighton Heights) have been informed of a sixth COVID-positive school community member within the past eight days.
Consistent with Pennsylvania Department of Education guidelines for school closures, Northside Catholic Assumption Academy will close for in-person learning for seven days - from April 29, 2021, through May 5, 2021. The state guidelines depend on the number of COVID-19 cases during a 14-day period and level of community transmission of the virus.
Students will participate in remote instruction during the closure. The school will reopen on May 6, 2021, for in-person instruction.
In a letter to parents, the principal assured families that people identified as having been in close contact with the individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 have been informed. Also, all buildings are regularly cleaned and sanitized, and the school continues to follow all diocesan, local, state, and federal health and safety directives, including wearing face coverings, handwashing/sanitizing, social distancing, self-screening, and cleaning/disinfecting.
"Understanding the challenges that COVID-19 and this closure will present for our families, it is in the best interest of our school to take every precaution possible to keep our students, teachers, staff, and school community as safe as possible,” said Rosanne Kwiatkowski, Northside Catholic Assumption Academy principal. “Our priority is their safety.”
