All first graders will move to virtual learning temporarily
A first-grade student at St. Bede School in Point Breeze has tested positive for COVID-19. Out of an abundance of caution, all first graders will participate in virtual learning for the next 14 days.
Following all health and safety protocols, the school principal, Sister Daniela Bronka, immediately reported the information to the Allegheny County Health Department. She also notified school families.
The student is following the recommendations of his/her doctor as well as guidelines from the CDC and Allegheny County Health Department.
In addition, the schools continue to meet or exceed all diocesan, local, state, and federal health and safety directives, including wearing face coverings, hand washing/sanitizing, social distancing, self-screening, and cleaning/disinfecting.
In coordination with the Health Department’s recommendations, the student will not return to school until isolation procedures are complete. Any impacted areas of the school are getting extra cleaning and sanitizing over the weekend.
“We remain vigilant. I’m extremely proud of our administrators, teachers, and school families for the careful and creative ways they’re working to come together to allow our students the rich educational experience we are used to offering,” said Michelle Peduto, director of Catholic Schools.
